    Club Night Out

    SGS  Visits Urban Garden Oasis

Members of the Simpsonville Garden Club enjoyed a Night Out on Greenville’s trendy Augusta Road on February 20th. Following dinner at Zoe’s Kitchen, the club was treated to a Seasonal Table Display Demonstration and Workshop at Roots, an Urban Garden Oasis.

Wesley Turner, owner of Roots, provided the workshop, creating a delightful Easter dish garden. Mr. Turner’s work has been featured on HGTV’s We Bought the Farm which aired in June of 2017.

Afterwards attendees had fun crafting their own garden creations. Selecting from Root’s array of eclectic garden containers and collection of houseplants, the gardeners created holiday displays to decorate their homes.

      Mission Clean & Green

Simpsonville Garden Club Mission: Clean and Green in 2018!

January Guest Speaker, Jane Hiller, Director of Education at Sonoco Recycling in Columbia, SC.

Jane Hiller, Director of Education at Sonoco Recycling in Columbia, SC provided a special presentation on

how  to create a healthier South Carolina by reducing solid waste and  recycling at the January 16th meeting of the Simpsonville Garden Club.

Ms.  Hiller discussed why waste is a problem and provided tipes and  guidelines for practices we can all do to make less waste. Reduce, Reuse  and Re-cycle are the keywords she used. Ms. Hiller suggested we start  small, examine our garbage and decide what our garbage mostly consists  of, then try to work on that reducing that one item. For example, using  canvas bags for shopping will reduce the number of plastic bags we throw  away.

Jane  Hiller is a graduate of DePaul University and she directs the Sonoco  Recycling Education Center, helping area municipalities, businesses,  agencies, schools and congregations establish and sustain successful  recycling programs.

Ms. Hiller also coordinates the South  Carolina Green Step Schools Initiative http://www.greenstepschools.com/  and serves on the board of the Environmental Education Association of  South Carolina.

SGC Celebrats Christmas at the Garden House

      Simpsonville Garden Club Celebrates Christmas

Members of the Simpsonville Garden Club  hosted a holiday celebration for members at The Garden House Bed and  Breakfast, 302 South Main Street, SC 29681 on December 12th.

The  holiday luncheon consisted of home-made dishes prepared by members, and  the celebration included a gift exchange. A good time was had by all!

        Designers Challenge

The Simpsonville Garden Club experienced a rare treat at their November meeting. Three garden judges were tasked with creating a design from the same cut horticulture using identical flower pots in thirty minutes.

President of the Greenville Council Garden Club Joan Wilson facilitated the program. Marsha Alexander, Brenda Thompson and Margaret McCarter provided the design talent.

The program delivered a lesson in creativity and design. A silent auction was held and all three beautiful arrangements were auctioned off to members.
